Since it was founded in 1979, Inc. magazine has provided invaluable insight into the world of American small businesses and startups. In order to meet the criteria for its well-circulated Inc. 5000 list, a company must meet a number of specific requirements for that calendar year. Using unbiased data and a rigorous review methodology, the team at Inc. magazine then determines which companies can truly be considered the “fastest-growing.”

Here are the requirements for a company to make the 2019 list:

Based in the United States
Under private ownership
Able to show 3 full calendar years of sales
Have a revenue no less than $2 million by 2018
Show a significant revenue increase from 2015
